Experiment Title: Calculating the Migration Patterns of North American Birds
Knowing that bird migration has been shown to rely on the Earth’s magnetic field for navigation, the team from Sylvania wanted to see if variations in the magnetic field strength at different altitudes could account for the different altitudes used by various bird species during their travels.
The Northview Engineering Team earned second place at Black Rock, and successfully launched a high powered rocket to an altitude of 13,612 feet, with the airframe surviving supersonic speeds. Videos of one of their launches are linked to below (ignore the timestamp).
